“Based on the less-than-1% discordance rate between sTSH and FT4 results, an sTSH level alone is adequate to screen outpatients for thyroid dysfunction. Ordering the sTSH alone,initially, followed by FT4 in only those cases of abnormal sTSH, will significantly decrease unnecessary testing and expense.”
